Written by my 11 yr old son, it's his first homework assignment for Grammar School. He has to take it in on his first day on Tuesday. I've seen worse at dear_mun - MUCH worse...LOL


PEA AND HAM SOUP

It was nearly Christmas. I had been picked to play the part of Joseph in the school nativity play. At the age of four, I had decided that the part of Joseph wasn't good enough
and decided that playing the part of one of the Kings would be better. Now I understand my decision wasn't a good one. Though one of the things I was pleased about was to be one of the
people bringing a gift to the baby Jesus.

When the nativity play was over, I went back to my Grandma's house. I didn't go home because nobody was there. I was staying at Grandma's house as Mum and Dad were in hospital.
While my Mum was in hospital, not knowing when he was coming out of her stomach, she waited nervously as the rain fell as hard as a hammer.

I was only four and I had been told that I would soon be getting a brother and that Mum wouldn't be fat anymore. Sitting at the kitchen table at Grandma's house, in front of a bowl of
pea and ham soup, she was walking up and down, unable to sit still. She kept talking about the phone not ringing as I slurped my soup.

As I put on my pyjamas, the phone rang and my Grandma rushed to answer it. My new brother had arrived. I was packed into the car, still wearing the pyjamas and drove straight
to the hospital. I remember Grandma driving quite fast because she was in a hurry to see her second Grandson for the first time.

While we were driving to see my new baby brother, I thought that this would not be the first baby I gave a present to that night. When we got to the hospital, we had to walk through
some really long corridors and up lots of sets of stairs before we got to where my new brother, Ross, was sleeping. The hospital was very quiet and empty because it was now quite late.
Grandma's hurried footsteps echoed on the tiled hospital floors and I had to almost run to keep up with her.

On the way along one of the corridors I got more excited about meeting him for the first time.
I wondered what having a new baby brother would be like and what my friends at Nursery would think of him. I was so happy to have a little brother because I would now always
have someone to play with and would no longer be an only child.

My life that day had been very busy. I had been to school, taken part in a nativity play, been to Grandma's and had even been to hospital to meet my new brother, but one thing still
sticks out in my mind more than any other thing about that day...

At the very moment my seven-year-old brother was being born, I had been eating pea and ham soup.

I finally mailed off my Yr 2 options. Still not sure, but it's done now.

1st Choices; Contemporary American Cinema (s1), TV Acting 2 (s2) and Script Writing (s2)
2nd Choices; Gender & Sexuality (s2), TV Acting 2 (s1) and Script Writing (s2)

I'm still not sure on opting out of the Theatre Acting module in favour of Script Writing, but the compulsory modules cover that - there's a Theatre Project in Sem1 and a One Act/Play Performance in Sem2. ffff - I'm a procrastinator at the best of times. >_>

Aaand while we're on the subject of procrastination, I'm still yo-yoing on putting Ten and Gene into Taxon, both of them (Ten moreso) demand overkill attention and with already having four people there, someone will inevitably give. Not that I've been doing much with Seven anyway.

In other news, I sent two children off to school today dressed as ( WW2 evacuees )

I made a whole batch of animated icons for Hurley's Devil from Bedazzled - another character that I RP'd and I adore them and her as the Devil and that movie in general - minus Brendan Fraser obvs who I don't really rate - and I don't rate Hurley as an actress either (actually Peter Cook and Dudley Moore were better in the original but ignoring that...) - but I love that character, and have had a bajillion laughs playing her over the years - so it's my tribute to her on this account. Dude! I grew up on Fawlty Towers, it's one of my Dad's favourite sitcoms. And the Major is so confused most of the time and this icon captures him perfectly. Also, how can I not have this icon when I spend so much time talking to aishlin? Who just happens to be Canadian - and I use it as often as possible when replying to her, because I can, and it's become a bit of an in-joke.

taxonomy, n. The science of finding, describing, classifying and naming organisms.

Two thousand years in the future. Earth is gone, the human race is no more, but there are other intelligences in the Universe, and the Earth left traces.

What were these traces? Fictions.

An alien intelligence (not little green men, something intangible) has decided to reconstruct the Earth, but based on what’s left of humanity: fiction. And by extension, fictional characters. These characters of course don’t know they’re fictional- and may not even be from Earth within the canon of their fictions, but that doesn’t matter. This alien intelligence doesn’t have the specifics, it’s curious and it’s arbitrary and it’s an avid collector. Think of it as a pet project.
